Once we connect with educators worldwide and build a personal learning community (PLC) or a personal learning network (PLN), we start exchanging our knowledge and experiences as well as the resources we use in our everyday work. The more people we connect with, the more useful information we can collect. The amount of information grows exponentially with the growth of our PLN.
However, having so much information at our fingertips can sometimes become overwhelming and can lead to information overload. To prevent such a burnout, we need a filtering tool that will enable us to sift through the information we collect. Content filtering is known as content or social curation. There is a huge number of social curation tools which we can use to collect, organize, share important content and collaborate with other users. We can create collections of resources for each of our interests, needs, topics or groups of students or professionals. This allows us to access a certain piece of information at the time when we need it.
